I like doing things in order, because an order makes me treat every item on that list equally. For example, I wear my pants in order, because otherwise I would wear my favourite ones all the time and never wear the uninteresting brown cords, and that just wouldn't be fair. I tell that to people (not often), and they think I'm a bit strange...which you must now as well, BUT the point is that there are films that won Best Picture that I would not have otherwise seen/read. There are also a lot of classics (only time will tell for the newer ones, but certainly for the older works, just being in the list suggests that they are classics) that I have always meant to see, but never gotten around to. I've never seen Casablanca (1943), Rocky (1976), or Titanic (1997). But I bet you haven't seen them all either.
Which is why, dear not-yet-existent readers, I invite you to come along with me on this merry, completionist, canon-adventure. Let us see the films that everyone has, or studiously pretends to have, seen. You, out there in the blackness, should read and watch along with me, and you can respond to my posts, and then we can have wonderful DISCUSSIONS. Or not. You can just read the blog. And I think I'll find my own life, and certainly my own biases and long-held opinions, creeping into the mix - not in a self-centred way, just in a what I'm thinking about way.
Something I should make known: I was a theatre student, not a film student. My knowledge of film is at a purely amateur level. Watching movies has always been a great love, but only recently have I started to look at them more critically, and learn more about the construction of story, screenplays, etc. But I love stories, and movies, and I hopefully know a thing or two about making art.
Aaaaaaaaand....GO!
